"Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.”
All things are connected.
"Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.”
From the 1854 speech fo Indian Chief Seattle. He was the head of Suquahamish, a Native Tribe who lived on the Pacific Coast, near Seattle. He pronounced these words during a peace talk, he wanted to live in peace with white settlers but he asked, in the meantime, respect for his people and their land.
"The earth does not belong to us; man belongs to the earth. One thing we know which the white man may one discover: our God is the same God. You may think now that you own him as you wish to own our land; but you cannot”.
I discovered Chief Seattles’s words, engraved on a wooden plaque, in a Summer walk, many years ago, while walking among the trees in Olympic National Park, in the land in which he and his tribe used to live. I had been thinking, for a long time, about the responsibility of developing companies which could be sustainable, environmentally and socially responsible, and in the meantime, involving ourselves in non profit projects and associations, committing to them the skills acquired through our work.
Philanthropy, alone, would not be enough. This is the reason for which, during the last years, I decided to transfer to others the ownership of some of our companies, (Doxa, Connexia, Save the Duck...) and to focus on Altana Childrenswear and Alchimia, our investment holding.
We care, particularly, about projects regarding social housing - homeless people - education and health in developing countries -
